CVYN Reflection Week Blog
In this post I would like you to reflect on what you experienced and learned through the preparation and running of Cowichan Valley Youth Night. Feel free to briefly explain CVYN for your friends and family (optional).
- What specific role(s) did you have for CVYN?
- Consider the preparation process and the actual running of the event…How did you apply your strengths within your role(s)? In what ways were you challenged/stretched? (e.g. you could discuss topics such as communication, confidence, organization, problem solving, cooperation with others, etc.)
- In what ways has this experience prepared you for future leadership and/or ministry opportunities? My specific role at CVYN was to create a game. Being that the event was online, Charlotte, Dawson, and I were almost wading through new waters. We came up with a short mission/vision, " Our goal is to make complete and utter fools of ourselves so that a comfortable tone can be set throughout the event."Charlotte came up with the brilliant idea of creating a funny video to accomplish this. We had to make sure that viewers would keep interested throughout the entire video. We came up with a competition of asking skill testing questions that would ultimately end in a hilarious consequence. It was decided that we would heroically get pied in the face with whipped cream.I really enjoyed being able to use my skills of camera work and video editing. That week I was more challenged because of my inability to manage time well, the amount of homework that we did have, and the lack of sleep due to late nights working. Our group did pretty good overall, but we did lack in organization as we only picked up the giveaway gifts 1 day before the actual event. This experience has prepared me for future ministry in the way that the church is going to have to change with the time to stay relevant. Remembering back to David Lee's class, he stated that change is inevitable for the church. Using the technology of our current day and age allows for effective ministry. CVYN is a good example of following Jason Ballard's words, "Never waste a good pandemic." No, it wasn't perfect, but we took what skills and gifts we had and used them for loving kids in the 21st Century.
